Installing Senserva’s Drift Manager application is easy.  Just download it from the Microsoft Marketplace and you have everything that you need to get started.  However, downloading the software is just the first step in the process.
At Senserva, we understand the cloud and the multitenant nature of Microsoft 365.  We also understand everything that needs to be configured to keep your data secure and in your tenant.
While it would be easier to install our application in your tenant and export your data to our cloud instance, at Senserva, we believe that it is your data and that your data is valuable.  It should live in your tenant and be secured according to your requirements, not ours.
That makes our setup and configuration a bit more complex to begin with.  But rest assured, we can have you up and running in about an hour.
What will you need?
  • A tenant to host Drift Manager
Senserva recommends one M365 tenant for every 20,000 users.
  • The following Azure Resources are configured by the Drift Manager installer:
    • Azure App Service
    • Azure Key Vault
    • Azure SQL Server Database
    • SignalR
    • Azure User Assigned Managed Identity
  • The following M365 Licenses are assumed to exist, but can be optionally configured:
    • Entra Premium
    • Intune
    • Microsoft Sentinel
At this point, the description is going to get a bit technical, but it is here so that you understand what we will be doing to your tenants.
With these requirements in place, our engineer will work with your team to configure Drift Manager for your environment.
What actions will we perform during installation?
  • Install Drift Manager from the Microsoft Marketplace
  • Create and configure the Drift Manager Database
  • Create the App Registration Settings and Permissions within Entra
  • Create the Customer Scanner App Registration Settings and Permissions within Entra
  • Assign an Active Directory role to the Customer Scanner App Registration
  • Grant consent to the Customer Scanner App Registration
To begin the process, the Senserva Drift Manager binaries will be installed to the dedicated App Service Scanner tenant.  This can be accomplished by your team prior to the setup meeting or our engineer during the meeting.
Next, the SQL database will be set up and configured.  Drift Manager will use the database to store tenant configuration settings as well as tenant scan results.
Our engineer will work with your team to create and configure two Entra App Registrations that will be used by Drift Manager for cross-component and cross-tenant communication.  One of these, the Infrastructure App Registration, is for Drift Manager use exclusively.  The other, the Customer Scanner App Registration, is used by Drift Manager for identity authorization and tenant application scanning.
Important: Naming the Customer Scanner App Registration is a branding opportunity for your company.
This app registration will be visible to your customers in their tenants, so it can be used as a branding opportunity to both highlight value-add as well as answer questions as to what the component is.
The Azure Key Vault will be configured to store information regarding Drift Manager’s Customer Scanner App Registration authorization certificate and the SignalR Connection.  The Azure Application Service will be configured to work with the Azure Key Vault.
If desired, Senserva can configure Drift Manager to automatically file support tickets in one of the five supported ticketing systems to work with Drift Manager.  These ticketing systems are AutoTask, ConnectWise, FreshDesk, ServiceNow and Zendesk.
Finally, after verifying that everything is running correctly, the database firewall will be configured to restrict access for everything but the App Service IP address and the trusted Administrator IP addresses.
Once completed, adding additional client tenants to the scanner is a straightforward process of declaration and setting access permissions within the client tenant.
To make things easier for future deployments, most of these configuration steps have been automated using PowerShell scripts.  However, we do recommend that we assist your team with the setup and configuration of your first Drift Manager Scanner tenant.
